Ranking first among six environmental firms in Reno NV, WBS was awarded a contract from Washoe County Department of Regional Parks and Open Space for the Hawken and Peavine Wildland Fire Ecosystem Restoration projects in December 2009. WBS was tasked with designing erosion control, restoration, noxious weed control, and fuels management specifications for the two project areas. The WBS multi-disciplined team custom assembled for this job included local experts in the fields of vegetation, construction, soils, engineering, fuels, and wildlife. In August of 2010 WBS was contracted to provide oversight of construction. Innovative designs include establishment of ‘island’ ecosystems for the natural distribution of propagules and symbiotic microorganisms by wildlife, and seed coating to enhance native plant establishment in stands of invasive and noxious weeds.
WBS is currently conducting state-of-the-art research using treated seed in weed dominated areas on Peavine Mtn.
