Atontonilco, Wastewater Treatment Plant

Wastewater Treatment Plant, Atontonilco, Hidalgo, Mexico. WBS, in conjunction with Wholesale Erosion & Landscape Products and COINHO was contacted to design and implement slope stabilization and revegetation methodologies for 1:1 slopes of which 60% are compacted to 95%. These slopes, located above the treatment ponds, also have limited access. In addition to the very challenging site and difficult climatic conditions, the designers were challenged by the lack of suitable and available materials in an almost non-existent field of non-engineered erosion control and remediation practices in Mexico. Also unusual was the requirement for the design team to install a successful demonstration prior to the rainy season and prior to be being contracted to complete the remaining 42 acres of slope stabilization and remediation.
